LIFE-AQUEMFREE EVENT

LIFE-AQUEMFREE EVENT

An event aimed at the transfer of the results obtained in the LIFE-AQUEMFREE project (decontamination of waste water on farms containing plant protection products from remnants, rinsing and cleaning using solar photocatalysis) was held at the University of Murcia Scientific Park on 18th June.

The project, which is co-financed by the European Commission through the LIFE programme, began in July 2014 and is nearing conclusion on 30th June. The project is coordinated by the Murcia Institute of Agri-Food Research (IMIDA) with the cooperation of the Agricultural Chemistry Department of the University of Murcia, Murcia-based company Novedades Agrícolas S.A. and the Federation of Agrarian Cooperatives of the Region of Murcia (FECOAM).
The event was opened by Miguel Angel del Amor Saavedra, Regional Minister for Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. In his presentation, he emphasised that LIFE-Aquemfree provides an innovative technological solution for a real problem, and has integrated end users (manufacturing company and farmers) from the start, thus ensuring successful implementation.
At the event, the results obtained over the course of the four years that the project has been up and running were made public. Other LIFE projects – LIFE-DRAINUSE, LIFE-CLEAN UP and WATERREUSE – were also present to contribute their experience to the event.
